BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF THE STATE COLLEGE OF MUSIC AND DANCE OF MONGOLIA
The State College of Music and Dance of Mongolia (SCMD) is the first nation-wide school where children from an early age can get an art and cultural education. The State College was established in 1937 under the Ministry of People's En¬lightenment as a School of Culture with the purpose of training of professionals in the field of culture and art. During 1937- 1945, the School of Culture organized 2 year courses to train drama actors and folk musicians. Since 1945 the School was re¬organized as a Musical and Dramatic School and opened new classes for training dancers and producers of amateur and music conductors for the Mongolian national instruments orchestra. In 1959 the School was renamed as a High School of Music and Dance and at the same time European music classes were opened and a new 5-11 year education system was introduced.
Today the State College of Music and Dance (SCMD) has over 1000 students and 200 highly qualified teachers, who are providing teaching in 30 professions such as mongolian folk and classical music and dance, singing, circus performance, and many more. The teaching continues for 12 years in the special music high school and 4 years in the higher music education level.
In the past 75 years more than 7500 specialists of culture and art have graduated from this State College, many of whom became well-known and famous not only in Mongolia but also in other countries. Most of the College's teachers are highly qualified from former Sovet Union and Socialist countries and very experienced. The State College is considered one of the prestigious teaching institutions in the country. SCMD plays a main part in the provision of the qualified professionals to the Creative Sector of Mongolia. More than 90 % of our graduates are working at the Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Academic Ensemble of National Song and Dance of Mongolia, Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and other creative in¬stitutions.
We have close relations with overseas Music Schools, and famous musicians and professors come for the master classes and arrange joint performances and lectures. Recently 5 of our
students have successfully entered the World United College in Italy and two of them have received the degree and are continuing their studies in the USA and Italy . During the last 20 years over 300 students have received Grand Prix , first, Second and other prizes at the international and domestic competitions Students D.Oyuntulkhuur, O.Solongo, N.Damdinsuren participated in the Children World Composer's competition in Japan and have received Grand Prix in 1989,1993,1999. G.Batzaya won Grand Prix at the international competition for Young pianists named after M.Magin in Paris, France. S.Nomin, B.Bayart, G.Tselmeg have taken part at the international competition for Young Pianists in Spain and received first place. Students Ch.Ganchimeg and M.Khaliun received the Gold and Silver medals at the Asian Pacific region international competition for Classical dance in Tokyo, Japan. Student S.Undarmaa received first place at the international competition for Young pianists in Redford, USA 2003. In 2005 students B.Baterdene, Ts.Bekhbat, and D.Amarmend received first place at the international competition for Young musicians " Naidal-2005" in Ulan-Ude, Russia, in 2007 Student B.Baterdene received first place at the international competition for Young pianists in Paris, France, G.Ganbaatar has received First place at the international competition for Young musicians in Krsnoyarsk, Russia. In 2011 G.Tamir and B.Bilguun received First prize at the International competition for Young musicians in New York, USA and were invited to perform on the Stage at Carnegie Hall.Student Delgerbayar received Second prize at the Abramova International competition for Youth singers in Moscow, Russia. ,Chinguun 4th class pupil received First prize at the Kheran International competition for Young Cellist in Usti Nad Orlichi Czech Republic also received First prize at the "Flame " International competition for Young Cellist in Paris, France. 3 and 4 th class pupils B.Anujin, M.Ariunuils receieved first prize at the "Creschendo-little Mozart " International competition for Young musicians in New York, USA. The State College of Music and Dance of Mongolia is preparing to change the structure and name of the College. We suppose that our College will called Mongolian National Conservatory of Music.
